Robyn I. Stone, a noted researcher and internationally recognized authority on long-term care and aging policy, is the executive director of the Institute for the Future of Aging Services (IFAS) at the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging in Washington, DC. Since she started IFAS six years ago, she has developed and directed a number of national programs including the Center for Medicare Education, the Better Jobs Better Care National Program and the National Initiative to Link Affordable Senior Housing with Health and Supportive Services

Edward Leung

Edward Leung, President, Hong Kong Association of Gerontology
Edward Leung is Consultant Geriatrician of Untied Christian Hospital. He also holds various other significant appointments including the Chairman of Geriatric Specialty Board of Hong Kong College of Physicians. A prominent figure in Asian ageing, Dr. Leung's major research interests are epidemiology in old age, health promotion,osteoporosis, fall, stroke, incontinence, long term care and public policy in old age. He has widely in local and international journals and has been contributor to a number of books on health and ageing.

Mary Ann Tsao, President, Tsao Foundation
Mary Ann Tsao is the President and Director of the Tsao Foundation, a Singapore-based - but regionally oriented - not-for-profit operational foundation dedicated to aged care and ageing issues. Dr. Tsao is a frequent invited speaker at conferences and seminars on ageing, civil society and philanthropy both in Singapore and internationally. Most recently, she was one of three international experts invited to address the United Nation’s 45th session of the Commission on Social Development to launch the fifth year review of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA+5).Over the past years, Dr. Tsao has served on numerous policy and technical committees in Singapore and internationally. For her work on ageing in Singapore, she received the Public Service Medal in 2000 and Public Service Star in 2004.

Dan Gray began his consulting practice in 1988 to provide senior services organizations with operational auditing, direct management services, and development of community-based services. In 2002, Mr. Gray established Continuum Development Services (CDS), which works with health and housing organisations to develop a broad array of services which promote independence and support older persons to continue to live in their own communities. In his long experience in the industry, he has conducted 100+ operating reviews, achieved turnaround of two retirement communities and a large nursing home, and provided technical experience to health systems and long-term care organizations to develop PACE (Program for All Inclusive Care of the Elderly)

Carol Benner has been recruited as Field Director for The Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign to assist the campaign’s Local Area Networks for Excellence (LANEs) in expanding the campaign’s reach and impact nationwide. Carol is responsible for the overall development and implementation of successful, sustainable LANEs. Prior to this, Carol served as a consultant for the Delmarva Quality Improvement Organization. Carol had also served as the Director of the Office of Health Care Quality at the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Since 1998 Robert (Bob) Lagoyda has served as the Director of Professional Development for the International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing (IAHSA), where he is responsible for IAHSA’s educational programmes including IAHSA’s International and European Conferences. In addition, Bob directs IAHSA’s design programmes and serves as IAHSA’s liaison to the professional design community, including the American Institute of Architect’s Design for Aging Center and the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments.

Emi Kiyota

Emi Kiyota, Consultant and PhD Candidate of Architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Emi Kiyota has published journal articles and book chapters across the globe. She also has international consultation experiences for predesign programming for senior housing and addiction treatment centers. In addition to working over the past two years on an ageing-in community research project in Sri Lanka, Emi has a great deal of expertise in person-center care, including consultation on the design manual for the Green House Replication Project design manual and is particularly interested in the relevancy and application of personcentered care in the developing world.

Eduardo Klien

Eduardo Klien, Regional Representative, Asia Pacific Regional Development Centre, HelpAge International
Graduated in International Management at the University of Oregon. Later obtained a MSc in Economics at El Colegio de Mexico. 25 years experience in social and economic development, working with Governments and International Organisations.

As an academic, Eduardo has been a lecturer in international economics at the University of Mexico and in 1997 was appointed as Fellow Researcher in the International Development Center (QEH) of the University of Oxford. In 2007 appointed as research fellow of the Oxford Institute of Ageing of the University of Oxford.

Eduardo has worked performed Senior Adviser in the Ministry of Planning in Nicaragua and as Regional representative for Oxfam in Central America, East and Southern Africa.

For the last ten years Eduardo has been living in Asia, holding different directive positions in Laos, Vietnam and regionally. Currently he is the Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific for HelpAge International, based in Thailand.

Alfred Chan Cheung-ming, Chair Professor of Social Gerontology, Department of Sociology and Social Policy, Lingnan University
Alfred CHAN Cheung-ming is currently Chair Professor of Social Gerontology, Department of Sociology and Social Policy, Director of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) and Director of Office of Service-Learning (OSL) at Lingnan University.

As Director for the APIAS, Prof. Chan advocates research into intergenerational studies for the promotion of a harmonious society. He sits on many Government advisory bodies, including being the Vice-chair of the Elderly Commission and Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Council on Human Reproductive Technology.

Prof. Chan’s writings on health and social care issues have been published in leading journals on social sciences. His recent works include an interpretation of intergenerational relationships, ageing and long-term care policies in Asia Pacific, the development of health and social-care measurements, quality-of-life and public service consumer satisfaction surveys.

Prakash Tyagi, Director, GRAVIS, India
Prakash Tyagi currently works as the Director of GRAVIS, an NGO based in the Thar Desert, Rajasthan. GRAVIS focuses on rural development of the region with special focus on vulnerable groups including elderly population. The organization’s activities include community healthcare, water management, livelihoods promotion, capacity building and advocacy. GRAVIS covers over 1 million people with its programmes in over 800 villages.

Dr. Tyagi is an active member of several national, regional and global networks focusing on healthcare and developmental issues.

Stella Cheung, Executive Director, Hong Kong Association of Gerontology
Cheung Yuk-har, Stella, is the current Executive Director of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology, and she also serves as the consultant to provide quality improvement service to elderly homes in Macao. Prior to this, she was the Senior Manager of St James’ Settlement, a significant provider in Hong Kong, managing two nursing homes, a day care centre, an integrated home care services team, enhanced home care services teams and a health promotion centre.

Stella has also trained and consult on programmes in Guang Zhou, China.

Peh Kim Choo, Assistant Director, Hua Mei Training Academy & Social Work Practice, Tsao Foundation, Singapore
Ms Peh is a trained social worker and counselor. She has more than 20 years of experience in social work working with individuals, families and groups. For the last eight years, Kim Choo has been involved in aged care in the area of counseling, supervision of clinical social work and training of aged care professionals and family caregivers.

She is currently is the Assistant Director of the Hua Mei Training Academy of the Tsao Foundation, involved with training, counseling and social work development. In her training portfolio, Kim Choo has been involved in developing a curriculum for social workers in eldercare and training programmes for facilitators of life reviews programmes for older persons.
